Our Commitment to Safety

In the practice of adventure activities, one can never be too careful.  Adventure therapy is all about perceived risks, while controlling the actual scenario to the best extent humanly possible.

It is for this reason that Fundación Aventura staff are certified in Wilderness First Aid, as well as international safety standards as approved and certified by the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT).  All of our equipment is certified by the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA), and is retired when it no longer meets the standard.  Our partner service providers undergo a rigorous evaluation before being admitted to work with the people we serve.

Methodology

Adventure Therapy is a kinesthetic or experiential learning technique that utilizes participatory outdoor challenges to help participants move through and beyond their struggles to experience the fullness of life God has for them.

In adventure therapy programming, participants face a variety of controlled outdoor challenges that contain a perceived level of risk that, when overcome by choice, helps them discover their own capacity to face fears, build trust, take personal responsibility and work with others to achieve goals.  Participants must take part in each activity willingly and voluntarily for the therapy to have effect.  As each participant's realization of their own capacity grows, program leaders help them make the connection with other challenges from daily life, both past and present.

Fundación Aventura combines these therapeutic techniques with strong elements of Fun and Faith in order to create a more holistic approach.  Fundación Aventura also employs this powerful combo to teach Life Skills to our participants, such as the ability to swim, ride a bike, drive a car, or perform first aid.
